Project Description

External photography - Merchants Warehouse, Castlefield, Manchester for JLLMerchants Warehouse is a Grade II listed building with construction completed in 1825. It is almost surrounded by canals within the beautifully set Castlefield basin in Manchester. It has survived fires and bombings from WWII and was unoccupied for a number of years. Its recent and sensitive restoration has resulted in a number of awards and has retained many original features including timber floors, ceiling structure, cast iron columns and brickwork.

Through careful and sympathetic design, the Well Pharmacy office refurbishment provides a high specification, modern workplace which still retains the unique, historic aspects and atmosphere of the former warehouse.

Photography Brief
Interior photography - Well Pharmacy HQ refurbishment, Manchester for JLL

Instructed by the Project Manager, Jones Lang LaSalle’s Building Consultancy in Manchester, exterior photography was required to show Merchants Warehouse in its beautiful surroundings within the  Castlefield canal basin. Interior photography was required to capture the high quality design and workmanship of the office refurbishment including exposed and original architectural details of the listed building.

The office refurbishment project is to be entered into two prestigious awards later this year.

Because of this, and that the office was already occupied at the time of the shoot (which brings its own challenges), two 6.30am starts were required to take as many images as possible, arrange furniture etc before the staff started work. I would like to thank Jo Payne from Well Pharmacy for her help throughout the shoot, for helping me re-rrange furniture and for providing me access so early in the morning. Thank you so much Jo!

On a personal level, looking through ex Building Surveying and current photography eyes, the high quality work put into this project by all involved and the exceptional final result of the refurbishment made this my most enjoyable interior office photography shoot to date.
